Sephora by OPI Shiny Dancer, "Magic Mike," and a giveaway reminder!

Maybe I should just give up looking for sparkly greys. After the fail whale that was Color Club Wild Orchid (I'm sorry, Madeline), I shopped my stash for another untried thparkly grey and decided to go for a darker one. I came up with Sephora by OPI (or $OPI, as it is known on MUA/the blogosphere) Shiny Dancer, and I think I failed again.

Shiny Dancer, it's not you ... it's me. Which is such a shame, because you are a beaut!

Look at these pictures. I dare you to not have a sad if you were in my shoes. All of these shots are color-accurate, since this one is a bit of a chameleon in different lights.

I need you all to know that in funny twist of ... not fate (something less profound)?, I wore this to a viewing of "Magic Mike" yesterday. HO. LY. SHITSNACKS. Never underestimate the number of older ladies who love Matthew McConaughey (believe the hype: this is the role he was born to play). I bet they all had had a few drinks before they went to the movie, because you don't laugh they way they did when you're sober. YOU JUST DON'T.

Three coats with SV.

Shiny Dancer is a supremely gorgeous charcoal grey foil with blue tones. Other bloggers have said this is similar to OPI Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous, only LLM is more of a true grey, which is more flattering on me (also I think LLM is far more sparkly). Formula-wise, this is more of a watery foil as opposed to some of the thicker foils we have been seeing lately. That wasn't a problem, though, especially because $OPIs have a skinny brush and provided you wait long enough between coats, you will not experience dragging (if you're still wondering how this compares to LLM, I think this actually had the better formula). It dried quickly with SV. I removed this after swatching, so unfortunately I can't tell you about the wear.

Shiny Dancer was part of the $OPI Urban Ballerina collection released during Winter 2011. It's part of the core $OPI line, which you can find at Sephora stores and online for $9.50. I believe I bought my bottle while placing a huge order online sometime last year with a coupon.

I really liked this polish, but it didn't take me long to see it leans too blue for me. It also gave me lobster hands. SAD PANDA. Into the purge pile she goes!

I have a few other sparkly greys to try, so this isn't the last you'll be seeing of them. Any thoughts on Shiny Dancer? Did you spring for the other shades in the Urban Ballerina collection? DID YOU GO SEE "MAGIC MIKE"?!?!?! Talk about shiny dancers. *rim shot* The attempt at a plot was adorable, but no matter -- I had the dumbest smile on my face throughout the entire movie, so you know it pleased the court. It was fucking ridiculous and I wasn't sure if I should have been allowed to drive myself home yesterday because I was still cracking up. But as I said on Twitter yesterday ... GOD BLESS AMERICA, ALL THE AWARDS.

This .gif has been making the rounds on my Facebook and on various ONTD posts within the past week, so I'll just leave it here.

To be fair, I cannot with Seth McFarlane in general. And I am ALWAYS down for a movie about strippers, as long as it's not "Showgirls." Ugh. I can't even pretend to like it ironically.

Before I go, hello, new readers! I hope this post hasn't scared you away. I also hope you stick around!

And of course, thank you to my readers, old and new, for the happy blogaversary wishes. Don't forget to enter my blogaversary giveaway! It's not as good as male strippers, but hey ... it's free, so that's something.

  1. I heart this color! I've been looking for it forever but I guess it was not meant to be. Looks fabulous on you :)

    1. Thanks Amanda! :) Oh, this will be coming (eventually) to a mini-blog sale near you.

  2. First of all-Thparkly cracked me up, then the whole drunk old ladies thing made me guffaw yes guffaw at my desk at work. You're apt to get me busted! I always wait and see movies on HBO so in about a year, I will be seeing Magic Mike, because I just TiVo'd The Help-yes alas, I am behind the times. But thanks for the laugh!

    1. This comment and that movie please me greatly. Thanks!

(But really, no no no. Take a girlfriend and go see this ridiculousness in the theatre for yourself. Just don't go to Cinebistro because you will spray your food everywhere laughing.)

  3. Wow, the light in your photos make this look so intensely amazing and full of shiny, charcoal-y goodness. In a couple shots, it almost reminds me of the iodine crystals I was looking at yesterday. Now I need to see if I can go find me a bottle.

    1. Thanks for the comment, lady! :) The particles are pretty awesome in this polish -- I would keep it but it's just too blue for me. Sad.

Thank you for checking out my little nail blog! I do read and appreciate your comments and/or feedback, although it might take me a few days to get back to you. Time-sensitive inquiries should be directed to my e-mail address (rachswatched@gmail).

Please be polite and respectful when responding to others' comments in a post; if you are rude, I will delete your comment and Hannibal Lecter will eat you. Please don't leave spam comments with blog links -- it's tacky and I don't do it. Neither should you.
