Stuff's First Birthday Giveaway!

Today is my one-year blogaversary! How 'bout that? As Pam Poovey of "Archer" would say, HOLY SHITSNACKS.

It's pretty nutty that I've been nail blogging for this long, mainly because I'm a pro at starting things and not following through with them over a period of time (especially if my money and health are not key factors), and also because I didn't think it would hold my interest. I guess it helped that I have the stash to justify blogging, as well as -- oh yes -- ALL OF YOU who have been reading regularly or checking in from time to time. This is all very exciting, sort of like HFS. Sort of.

(source, as far as I know)

Well, hopefully you won't fall asleep. And sorry, I'm a liiiiiiiiittle obsessed with that movie right now. (I guess if I had to compare my "21 Jump Street" fixation to something else, I'd have to say it would be my "Harold & Kumar" of 2012. You know -- bromance, drugs, profanity, pop culture guilty pleasure, heyooooooo. It is extremely quotable. Who knew I would love a movie so much starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, of all people??! Maybe the Mayans were right.)

ANYWAY.

Back in December, I hosted a ROYGBIV Holiday Giveaway with polishes from both holiday and regular releases in a rainbow motif. I didn't get anywhere NEAR that detailed this time around. Simply, I chose the easy to find polishes I featured here on Stuff during my first month of blogging. I loved them and they've remained in my stash, so this giveaway should be a great opportunity for you to get your hands on them whether it's for the first time or you just want back-ups.

Below are the polishes up for grabs! You can click on the links to revisit my swatches (and to laugh at them, especially Frostbite. Wow. Those are so very, very bad).

Polishes, from L-R:

Essie Beach Bum Blu (retail version)
China Glaze Frostbite
Orly Green with Envy
China Glaze Ahoy!
Essie Meet Me at Sunset (retail version)

In the spirit of "Jump Street," a friendship bracelet might make its way into your package, because that's what Schmidt would do.

  • This giveaway is open to residents of the U.S.  and Canada ONLY, and is open from today, July 7, until July 28 at 11:59 P.M. EST. I will announce the winner on July 29. This winner will have 24 hours to contact me to confirm her win; I will select another winner if the original winner does not contact me. (I'm sorry, international friends! I love you, but I have horrible intl. shipping luck and I'm terrified of getting slapped with fines.)

  • You MUST be a public Google Friend Connect follower. I know it's easier to read via RSS feed or Bloglovin widget, and you have no idea how much I appreciate your readership, PERIOD. However, GFC is much easier for me to verify at this time.

  • You must answer the following questions in the form of a comment to this blog post (I initially considered having you fill out a Rafflecopter widget or another Google Docs spreadsheet like you did during my holiday giveaway, but I've decided to do things the old-fashioned way):

    1. Please provide your GFC name and e-mail address. (*required)
    2. How did you find Stuff? If you remember, please be as specific as possible.
    3. Do you have any suggestions for improvements in terms of image quality, layout and general content? Is there a polish you'd like to see, as far as brand/finish/theme/______? (*required)
    4. Has this blog caused you to lemm or buy any polishes? If so, please share the name of the polish(es).
    5. Lastly, because this is VERY IMPORTANT to me, you must answer ONE of these two questions: What celebrities/actors would you cast in your own "Magic Mike" movie?, OR: What is your favorite movie from summer 2012? (*abso-fucking-lutely required)

THERE, I'M DONE. I won't be giving additional entries for doing so, but feel free to pimp this giveaway out on your blog, your Twitter account, your Facebook page, Batsignal, raven ... whatever you've got. I certainly would appreciate it, and I hope your friends will, too. :)

So good luck, and THANK YOU SO MUCH for your readership, your comments, your e-mails, your advice, your company, and in some cases, your friendship. To quote "Jump Street," I fuckin' cherish you. Here's to another great blogging year ahead! <3

:D

How did you find Stuff? - I am pretty sure I found it via a search for either nail blogs on Google or I was searching for a particular shade review and landed on your blog
Do you have any suggestions for improvements: I like the layout. It's easy to read and skip through fast if I need to look and read later. I do like to see actual polish shades vs. nail art. If there is nail art, showing the polish shades used clearly is so helpful. I love to see or read about dups or close to same shades that you know of or have in your stash to show us. I like to see mostly brand name polishes vs. too many indies...indies that are repetitive etsy shop ones that are glitter after glitter I find repetitive. Also so many indies are next to impossible to get, the shops are sold out or closed and it's sad to see something you never can get. So I would like to see more brands that we can buy in retail. Also I like to see old shades you run across you like that are still sold on the secondary market - such as on Amazon or beauty e-tailers. As far as lemmings or buys I have made because of your blog, that's hard for me to come up with. I don't always know where I have seen/read about something that caught my eye and lead me on to go looking for it on line. Sorry, I honestly get lost when I go looking to buy something on line and don't relate back to where I saw it on line.
Has this blog caused you to lemm or buy any polishes? If so, please share the name of the polish(es). As I said above, I don't pay that much attention to where I first saw something when I head off to do shopping on line. Generally I will first head to an etsy shop if a link is given, or if it's a more name brand I will go looking in a search on Amazon and eBay. If it's a brand I am not familiar with where to buy, I look on a Google search. That's my standard process when I see something on a blog I am interested in. Or if it's not released I make note of the shade and the release date to come in my calendar.
Lastly, because this is VERY IMPORTANT to me, you must answer ONE of these two questions: What celebrities/actors would you cast in your own "Magic Mike" movie? I have not seen Magic Mike so don't really know other than what I have seen in previews & in TV reviews - probably I would cast Ryan Gossling because I have a huge crush on him despite I am way too old for him - but his body rocks! OR: What is your favorite movie from summer 2012? So far best summer 2012 movie I have seen is Savages. I really liked 2 indie movies 1)The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and 2)Moonrise Kingdom. I also liked the new Woody Allen movie - To Rome With Love.

Found Stuff: To be honest, I don't remember but I found most of my favorite blogs through other people's blogrolls (before they all became infected a few weeks ago.)

Suggestions: I like the clean layout and image quality (and as a Droid photographer myself, am happy to see a likeminded blogger). My only "suggestion" -- and I put that in quotes because I'm not sure you can do anything about it -- is that when reading your posts in Google Reader, your photos never show up, which makes for a more inconvenient reading process since I have to click the link, enlarge your site etc. But like I said, that could totally be out of your control and I'm just whingeing.

Lemmings Induced: NOPI Nothing Kim-pares To Blue. I was actually really impressed that you reached out to me by email re: that polish.

My Magic Mike: Ryan Gosling (although I got most of what I needed from Crazy, Stupid, Love) and just for the irony, Robert Downey, Jr. He's a bit out of the age range but I still love him.

  7. I don't need to enter-but I just wanted you to know that I love your blog. I like how you ramble like I do, that you have passions for opera and music etc. I just like reading your stories. I would have Johnny Depp and Edward Norton in my Magic Mike movie-just cause they are hawt! Congrats on your anniversary! I'm glad you are still around~

    2. I found it when googling for images of specific polish swatches
    3. As far as improvement/things I'd like to see, I would like to see more macro mode shots of the swatches and maybe some photos taken indoors in a very bright well lit area/room. I noticed (in terms of my photo taking) it really brought out any subtleties.
    4. I couldn't tell you. I've a lot of nail polish over the past couple weeks. I'm sure it probably contributed; I always look up so many pics before purchasing polish items.
    5. My favorite summer movie if May 2012 counts as summer is Bernie (starring Jack Black).

Thanks so much for the opportunity!

    4. YES! Love the RBL swatches you have! Faraway Nearby is my top lem right now! (notice how I really like blue shades lol)
    5. Haven't seen any summer blockbusters yet. If I could cast my version of Magic Mike it would still have Channing Tatum and Joe Manganiello, add in Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling and James McAvoy. Now that's my kind of movie!!

    3. Your swatches are fabulous and I love that your posts have a pop culture spin to them (since I am also a junkie for that type of thing). Your blog is always very fun and entertaining to read!
    4. Essie Hot Coco (Thanks again, girl!), RBL Jane (got it after seeing your swatches, it's perfection), WnW Creepy Pumpkin and I'm sure countless others--but those are the ones that immediately come to mind!
    5. My version of Magic Mike would have Michael Fassbender, Timothy Olyphant and Henry Cavill. Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer are also more than welcome to stick around in my version too, of course. ;)

Um, it was you and I thank you for telling me about it.

Do you have any suggestions for improvements in terms of image quality, layout and general content? Is there a polish you'd like to see, as far as brand/finish/theme/______?

Hmm, perhaps a custom header and a change in background. I love your images!
Has this blog caused you to lemm or buy any polishes? If so, please share the name of the polish(es).

Electric Pineapple! The color and Psych reference won me over.

Lastly, because this is VERY IMPORTANT to me, you must answer ONE of these two questions: What celebrities/actors would you cast in your own "Magic Mike" movie?, OR: What is your favorite movie from summer 2012?

I still haven't seen "Magic Mike" which is my loss but if I had to choose a person or two Ryan Gosling & Josh Bowman. Oooh, Henry Cavill and Fassy would be interesting!

    3. Do you have any suggestions for improvements in terms of image quality, layout and general content? Is there a polish you'd like to see, as far as brand/finish/theme/______? I'm a HUGE fan of comparison/vs. posts and anything having to do with finding dupes, so it's always a joy to see anything resembling them.

    4. Has this blog caused you to lemm or buy any polishes? If so, please share the name of the polish(es).SOPI Shiny Dancer! I was just commenting on that a couple minutes ago.

    5. Lastly, because this is VERY IMPORTANT to me, you must answer ONE of these two questions: What celebrities/actors would you cast in your own "Magic Mike" movie? Considering some pretty hot little peppers are already in the movie, this is a tough one for me. I'd probably toss Jake Gyllenhaal in there, along with Ryan Gosling, Nick Zano, Ryan Reynolds and Paul Walker. Funny, apparently I equate blond men to being strippers.

    3. Your picture quality is outstanding!! I really like the content and your style of writing =) The only thing I'm not too crazy about is the book background, I think it's a little distracting from the main body.
    4. Since RBL brought me here I looked up your other swatches and now I really want "Faraway"!!
    5. I haven't seen Magic Mike yet and truly, there are way too many male actors I'd love to see half-naked to list here LOL =) My fav 2012 summer movie so far was "Prometheus."

But now I can't step in a store without a new one! I've familiarized myself with collections, swatch reviews, places to purchase new polishes, etc! So obsessed.
    3. Everything is good so far!
    4. I've considered quite a few but pocket change is on the low side recently. :(
    5. The first and only person I can think of that I would cast is James Deen. unf unf unf. Enough said. (If unfamiliar, NSFW google warning lol.) But if there must be more... Joseph Morgan.

    2. I found it during one of my Must Read ALL THE POLISH BLOGS binges, when Jacqui from The Scholarly Nail did a guest post here.

    3. First, let me just say that I love your rambling-ness, and I think your image quality is fabulous (esp. the kitteh pictures). If I *had* to say one thing, I guess in terms of design I would say a new, fancy-pants header? Of course, my graphic design skills are you know, nonexistent, so not sure how you would go about something like that. Anyway, I read because of the content, not the design! For polishes, I say keep doin' what you do--I'm neutral to the whole indie polish thing, so I love blogs that feature new and old colors from regular ol' "mainstream" lines (and comparison posts--love those).

    4. Essie's Shift Power! It was the polish that launched my polish obzession way back in...Winter '08? Early '09? Anyway, my sister stole this color from me, and I had totally forgotten about it (oops) until I saw it in your archives. Purchased a bottle from eBay, but the formula is craptastic, so I've been on the hunt for another bottle for the past two months.

    5. Favorite movie of the summer: The Dark Knight Rises. My own Magic Mike movie: Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer can stay, obvi, but I'd add Ryan Gosling, Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hartnett (the circa 2001 version of him, anyway), and Ryan Reynolds.

Has this blog caused you to lemm or buy any polishes? If so, please share the name of the polish(es). China Glaze Smoke and Ashes even though you didn't like it, I like muted sparkles
